Kyle Kovach

PhD Candidate, Faculty of Biology, University of Freiburg, Germany /n Postdoctoral Research Associate, Townsend Lab, Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology, University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA

Kyle Kovach’s dissertation focuses on utilizing drone hyperspectral remote sensing for the estimation of structural and biochemical traits in experimental forest diversity plantations. His interests include the use of high resolution hyperspectral and lidar data for mapping forest functional traits and taxonomy, the influence of tree species diversity on ecosystem function, and designing and deploying in-situ sensor microsystems. He holds an MS, BS, and BA from The Pennsylvania State University where he worked designing and building drones and aerial sensors for forest applications, and building statistical models for predicting forest harvests in the eastern United States using the USFS FIA database. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Forest Ecology under Michael Scherer-Lorenzen at the University of Freiburg, Germany, and Charles Nock from the University of Alberta, Canada.
